IRVING, Texas (SMU/C-USA) — No. 8 Marta Lesniak has been named the Conference USA Tennis Athlete of the Week. Lesniak was perfect on the week, ending with a combined 6-0 mark as she helped the Mustangs to defeat No. 43 UNLV, 4-3, and No. 52 Boise State, 4-0.
Lesniak, currently the No. 8-ranked singles player in the nation, went 6-0 as the No. 35 Mustangs won all three matches in Las Vegas over the weekend; topping Furman, No. 43 UNLV and No. 52 Boise State. She swept all three singles matches including a 6-2, 6-4 triumph against No. 77 Lucia Batta of UNLV. That win was the 13th for Lesniak against ranked opponents in singles this season. She made quick work of Boise State’s Lauren Megale, sweeping a 6-0, 6-0 win at the top position. In doubles, Lesniak and Aleksandra Malyarchikova won 8-1, 8-6 and 8-3 in the invitational. Lesniak combined to win all nine sets and 60 of 80 games played. The junior is currently on an eight-match tear in singles action and has won seven straight doubles contest alongside Malyarchikova. Lesniak earns her second Athlete of the Week honor of the year and the seventh of her career.
