SMU Swim Team Ranked 20th

EVANSTON, Ill. (SMU) – The SMU women’s swimming and diving team is ranked No. 20 nationally in the first College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll of the season.

The Mustangs are 3-0 in dual meets this year. SMU opened the season by defeating Rice, 156-106, on Oct. 15 in Houston. The Mustangs also downed Wyoming (74-39) and North Texas (69-44) in a double dual meet on Nov. 4 at Perkins Natatorium.

The women placed third in the highly-competitive SMU Swim Classic Oct. 21-22, swimming against No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Florida, No. 17 Louisville, No. 18 Virginia and Wisconsin (receiving votes).

SMU boasts two 2011 Conference USA Swimmers of the Week in sophomore Nina Rangelova and senior Therese Svendsen. Rangelova has the fastest C-USA time in the 100-yard freestyle (51.21), the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.96, an NCAA B qualifying time) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:48.87). Svendsen holds the league marks in the 100-yard backstroke (55.32), the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.75, an NCAA B qualifying time) and the 200-yard I.M. (2:04.20).

SMU competes in the Houston Invitational Nov. 17-19.
