SMU Swim Teams Sweep Friday Dual Meets
DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU swim teams combined to pick up three dual meet wins at Perkins Natatorium on Friday night. The women’s team won nine evens as they defeated Wyoming (74-39) and North Texas (69-44) in a double dual meet, while the men downed Wyoming (134-109) in a head-to-head matchup. The women are now 3-0 in dual meets this year and the men are 1-0.
All-American senior Therese Svendsen won the 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall in 2:04.74. She also earned top honors in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.79.
Sophomore Nina Rangelova picked up two individual titles, as the freestyle specialist won the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.29) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.05). Freshman Eleonor Lindborg took second behind Rangelova in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.81.
Freshman Isabella Arcila continued her strong season with sprint freestyle wins in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles, clocking in at 23.59 and 50.79, respectively. Freshman Erica Donadon placed third in the 50-yard event (24.55), while senior Emily Vavourakis earned a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (53.18).
Diver Sky Corbett-Methot picked up a pair of runner-up finishes in the one-meter dive (255.65) and the three-meter dive (266.40).
Also picking up important points for the Mustangs were seniors Denisa Smolenova (first 200-yard butterfly, 2:04.12) and Raminta Dvariskyte (second 200-yard breaststroke, 2:20.68).
The Mustang relay squads won both of the night’s relays, clocking in with a time of 3:46.38 in the 400-yard medley relay, and touching the wall in a time of 1:34.78 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
In the men’s meet, junior Mindaugas Sadauskas had another strong showing, winning the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. Sadauskas clocked in in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.73. He also led a shutout of the 100-yard freestyle with a winning time of 44.79. Nicolai Hansen finished second (46.16) and Ryan Koops placed third (46.32).
Senior Blaz Korosec took first in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 1:52.32, and earned a second place finish the 200-yard freestyle 1:42.01
SMU swept the medals finishes in both the one-meter and three-meter dives. David Burnett won both events with a score of 312 in the one-meter and 367.55 in the three-meter. Hayden Hodges earned a pair of second place finishes with scores of 283.40 and 320.95 in the one- and three-meter, respectively. Richard Cornelius took third in both dives with 282.15 points in the one-meter and 305.45 in the three-meter.
The men’s relay teams also took first in both of the relay events, finishing the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 3:20.60 and the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:22.39.
Mitchell Thomson (1000-yard freestyle, 9:44.21), Paolo Stanchi (200-yard backstroke, 1:54.73) and Matthew Napier-Jameson (200-yard breaststroke, 2:08.69) all had runner-up finishes for the Mustangs.
The men host Texas on Nov. 11 at Perkins Natatorium. The women compete in the Houston Invitational Nov. 17-19.
