HOUSTON (SMU) – The SMU women’s swim team swept both events on the first day of competition at the Conference USA Championships Wednesday. The women’s team is in first place, while the men’s team sits in fourth in their respective competitions.

The women opened the 2011 Championships with a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The squad of Therese Svendsen, Raminta Dvariskyte, Monika Babok and Nina Rangelova turned in an NCAA consideration time of 1:38.40.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the team of Rangelova, Svendsen, Denisa Smolenova and Alice McCall, took top honors touching the wall in 7:12.50. The time also earns the women consideration for the NCAA Championships next month.
