SMU T&F Finishes 2nd At C-USA Outdoor Championship

HOUSTON (SMU) – Two school records were broken and SMU won in two events as the Mustangs placed second at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships. The finish matched SMU’s best result in a C-USA Outdoor Championship, equaling their finish from 2011.

SMU led by one point after 12 total events, 60-59 over nationally-ranked UCF. The Mustangs were paced on Sunday by the efforts of Lucija Cvitanovic and Helena Perez, who each took first in their events. Perez won in shot put, recording a personal-best distance of 16.60 meters, which is fourth all-time at SMU. Cvitanovic utilized a personal-best mark in javelin, throwing for 49.21 meters.

Isis Wilson, Stephanie Kalu, Rachel Scruggs and Craishia Washington combined to set SMU records in both the 4×100 and 4×400 meter relays. The foursome placed second in the 4×100, crossing the line in 44.67. The group was fourth in the 4×400, finishing in 3:40.47.

Kalu placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.53. Mary Alenbratt was fourth in the 1500-meter run, crossing the line in 4:26.80. The senior then placed sixth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:43.25. Ashlee Powers placed 11th in 17:09.74.

Lisa Egarter gave SMU a runner-up result in the high jump, completing the 1.75 meter mark. Cvitanovic placed fifth.
