DALLAS (SMU) – SMU got three goals from three different players in a dominant 3-0 home win against Oklahoma on Sunday night at Westcott Field.

The Mustangs improve to 4-4 on the season and 3-0 at home. SMU has outscored its opponents 9-1 at Westcott this season, and have won 10 of its last 12 at Westcott dating back to the beginning of last season.

Shelby Redman continued her red-hot play as of late when she opened the scoring with a goal at the 10:15 mark in the first half. She found the ball along the left side off a feed from Kenzie Scovill and fired the ball just inside the left post. The Mustangs dominated the first half, including a goal 10 minutes later from Olivia Elliott off of a free kick opportunity.

Head Coach Chris Petrucelli has known his team was capable of generating scoring chances since before the season, and believes the offense is really getting to where he wants it now.

“They were good, especially in the first half,” Petrucelli said of his offensive side. “They were slipping into seams and getting in between people.

“I felt in the beginning of the season that we had a number of different players that could score goals and it’s starting to show.”

Slipping and sliding was the name of the game on Sunday night, as steady rain fell in Dallas for most of the day. Petrucelli felt this was to his team’s advantage, and that they performed very well under the wet conditions.

“We like to play the ball quickly,” Petrucelli said. “We like to combine. I think it helped us for sure.”

SMU got a cherry on top of its Sunday sundae when senior Mallory Baum found the back of the net late in the second half at the 81:27 mark. The goal was her first of the season, and gave SMU a three-goal edge. Redman collected an assist on Baum’s goal, giving her a team-high 11 points on the season.

SMU heads back on the road to start its Conference USA slate on Friday and Sunday for two games in Houston. Friday’s contest pins the Mustangs against the Houston Cougars (7 p.m.), and Sunday they’ll take on Rice (1 p.m.).
