SMU W-Tennis Sweeps Sam Houston State

DALLAS (SMU)— The SMU women’s tennis team swept Sam Houston State, 7-0, Friday night at the SMU Tennis Complex. The Mustangs improved to 3-0 on the season, while the Bearkats fell to 2-3.

The Mustangs picked up an early 1-0 lead as they won the doubles competition in two matches. Sarai Monarrez Yesaki and Ellie Zogg defeated SHSU’s Fabienne Gettwart and Khee Yen Wee, 6-1. Shortly after Liza Buss and Dasha Sharapova topped SHSU’s Mila Milanovic and Carrie Casey, 6-3.

SMU built on its lead in individual play. Five of six Mustangs defeated their opponents in straight sets starting with Buss defeating Gettwart 6-2, 6-0. Monarrez Yesaki topped Barkovic 6-3, 6-2 before Mary Wright took the match over Freidrichs 6-2, 6-3.

The Mustangs continue their homestand with a doubleheader Saturday hosting Northwestern State at 1 p.m. and Texas Rio Grande Valley at 5 p.m.
