SMU W-Tennis Wins Three Championships At Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) — The SMU Women’s Tennis team won three championships at the Texas Invitational. Aleksandra Malyarchikova and Hristina Dishkova recorded straight-set wins in their respective finals. Malyarchikova also teamed with Edyta Cieplucha to claim the doubles title.

“We performed well on championship Sunday,” said head Coach Kati Gyulai. “Congratulations to Hristina, Edyta and Sasha (Malyarchikova) for taking the titles. We have a long road ahead of us, but we are pleased to see that we are moving forward.”

Malyarchikova took the Orange Bracket singles title with a 6-4, 6-2 sweep of Elizabeth Begley of Texas. In her last three matches, Malyarchikova dominated in winning 36 of 50 games. Dishkova finished the White Bracket title run with her most lopsided victory, recording a 6-0, 6-1 win against Stephanie Nguyen of Rice.

In doubles, Malyarchikova and Cieplucha completed their Orange Bracket championship in strong fashion. The duo won 8-4 over Keseniya Bardabush and Franziska Sprinkmeyer of North Texas. For the weekend, SMU’s top pair won 32 of 42 games. Heidi Stewart and Holly Verner also played in their bracket title match, falling 8-3 to another tandem from UNT.
