DALLAS (SMU) – Alicia Froling recorded a career high with 16 rebounds, but the SMU women’s basketball team fell 63-58 to New Mexico in Moody Coliseum Saturday night. The sophomore posted her fourth double-double of the season, scoring 11 points, and Stephanie Collins added a team-high 13 points for SMU.

SMU (3-4) out-scored the Lobos (5-3) 24-15 in the second quarter, taking a 32-30 lead at halftime. New Mexico came out of the break and held SMU to just eight points in the third quarter to reclaim the lead. The Lobos stretched the advantage to 13 early in the fourth quarter, scoring seven straight after Morgan Bolton hit a 3-pointer to start the quarter and cut the lead to six, 49-43.

The Mustangs cut the lead to five, 61-56, with 2:47 remaining in the game, going on an 8-1 run, but managed just one more field goal, a layup by Froling to get to double figures in the scoring column. Ashley Gibson finished with nine points and eight rebounds, and Bolton and McKenzie Adams each scored eight. Freshman Dai’ja Thomas grabbed seven rebounds and scored four points.

SMU opens a five-game road slate Monday against No. 11 Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. The Mustangs and Aggies are scheduled to tip-off at 11 a.m. Fans can follow along on the SEC Network and KAAM 770 AM.
