SMU Women Fall To UCF

DALLAS (SMU) – Alicia Froling and Destynee Hives-McCray each recorded a double-double, but the SMU women’s basketball team fell to UCF, 61-57, on Sunday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.

SMU (4-15, 0-8 The American) was led by Froling, who recorded 18 points and 11 rebounds. The double-double was the freshman’s third of the season. Hives-McCray posted 11 points and 11 boards, marking the third time this season that the Mustangs have had two players record double-doubles in a game.

Gabrielle Wilkins also reached double figures, adding 11 points, and Kiara Perry recorded a career-high nine assists.

UCF (7-12, 3-5 The American) carried a 28-25 lead into halftime, despite shooting just 26 percent from the field in the opening half.

Early in the second half, the Mustangs took their first and only lead of the game at 33-30. However, the Knights answered with a big run to pull ahead by double digits with less than 10 minutes remaining.

However, the Mustangs would answer with a run of their own to pull within four in the final minute, but the Knights would hold on for the close victory.

Zykira Lewis, the conference’s leading scorer, led UCF with 18 points, despite shooting just 25 percent from the field.

SMU returns to the road for a matchup with Tulsa on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. CT.
