SMU Women Lose To Tulane

DALLAS (SMU) – Alicia Froling scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season as the Mustangs fell to [–/RV] Tulane, 54-42, in Moody Coliseum Wednesday night. This is the second-straight double-double for the 6-3 forward, who now has 13 in her career.

Trailing 31-20 at halftime, SMU (8-9, 3-3 American Athletic Conference) chipped away at the deficit, outscoring the Green Wave 11-3 in the third quarter to bring the game to within three, 34-31. The Mustangs held Tulane to no field goals in the third quarter and a season-low three points. Tulane (14-5, 5-2 The American) opened the final 10 minutes with a pair of 3-pointers by Kolby Morgan to take a 40-31 lead. McKenzie Adams sparked a 5-1 run, hitting SMU’s first 3-pointer of the game to bring the Mustangs within five, 41-36, with six minutes left in the game. Trailing 43-36, SMU converted four-straight free throw attempts to cut the deficit to three, 43-40. The Green Wave offense went on an 11-2 run in the final two minutes to secure the victory.

Froling, who has scored at least 10 points in three straight games, now has 12 double-digit scoring performances this season. Adams led the Mustangs with 12 points, going 3-for-4 from the free throw line. The Frisco, Texas, native has scored at least 10 points in 10 straight games. Senior Gabrielle Wilkins scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds before fouling out in the final minute of the game.

The Mustangs outscored Tulane 14-10 in the paint, 13-4 off of turnovers and 6-4 in fast break points. SMU also held the Green Wave to 32.6 percent from the field (14-of-43), its second-lowest percentage of the season.

In the first half, SMU held the Green Wave to 16 points and trailed by three, 16-13, after the opening 10 minutes, before Tulane outscored the Mustangs 15-7 to take a 31-20 lead into halftime.
