SMU women’s rowing defeats Creighton

WICHITA, Kan. (SMU) – The SMU women’s rowing team defeated Creighton this weekend, taking four out of five races in the second competition of the season between the two schools.

The Mustangs battled bitter cold and windy conditions to take wins in the 1st Varsity 8, 1st and 2nd Varstity 4’s, and the Novice 4. Emily Carstens and Haley King led SMU to a pair of victorys, racing in the Varsity 8 and the 2nd Varsity 4, while Ali Smith, Claira McElroy, McKenzie Redman, Hannah Hansing, Courtaney Miller, Emily McCombs and Colleen Costello also rowed the Varsity 8 to victory.

Halley Learned and Lauren Hadaway joined Carstens and King in the 2nd Varsity 4, while Deanna Patton, Samantha Peltier, Mo Lohry and Lauren Moore crossed the finish line ahead of Creighton in the 1st Varsity 4. Megan May, Amanda Scott, Laura Kade and Nicolle Sliwa earned a victory in the 1st Novice 4.

SMU took all three races against Creighton at the Oklahoma Invitational on Saturday, March 12 in the first event of the spring. The Mustangs next competition is scheduled for April 2 and 3 at the San Diego Crew Classic.
