NEW ORLEANS (SMU) — The SMU women’s tennis team won three singles matches, but lost the doubles point to fall 4-3 at No. 59 Tulane on Friday.

The Mustangs (1-1) earned singles wins from Aleksandra Malyarchikova at No. 2, Vaszilisza Bulgakova at No. 3 and Elena Fayner at No. 6.

“We put on a great fight today,” said head coach Kati Gyulai. “Matches that go down the wire define college tennis. Our very young team got an introduction to this experience. We grew because of it. We look to rebound tomorrow against No. 46 LSU.”

The determining point came at No. 4 singles as Yana Erkeeva fell 6-4 in the third set.

SMU visits No. 46 LSU on Saturday.
