SMU women’s track wins west coast events

WALNUT, Calif. (SMU) – The SMU women’s track and field team competed in the 53rd annual Mt. SAC Relays this weekend on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif., and the 2011 Bryan Clay Invitational on the campus of Azusa Pacific in Azusa, Calif.

Lisa Egarter and Simone Du Toit gave the Mustangs a pair of victories at the Bryan Clay. Egarter won the high jump event, clearing 1.85 meters (six and ¼ inches) and was the only competitor to clear at least six feet, while du Toit won the shot put event with a toss of 16.18 meters.

Amber Evans was second in the 400 meter dash and was the top collegiate athlete with a time of 55.37. Iris Wilson won her heat and was fourth overall in the 400 with a time of 55.69. Kristine Eikrem-Engeset ran a third-place, 4:33.56 in the 1500 meter.

Klara Bodinson was the top collegiate athlete in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in the invitational elite division at the Mt. SAC Relays, finishing fourth overall with a time of 10:06.63. Lovisa Lindh was 10th overall of 96 competitors in the 800 meter run, and her time of 2:08.57 was sixth among collegiate athletes.

Simone Du Toit gave SMU another top-five at the Mt. SAC Relays with a fifth-place 53.60 meter score in the discus throw. Her throw was the second longest among collegiate competitors.

The Mustangs will wrap up the regular season at North Texas in the Mean Green Twilight on April 30, before competing in the Conference USA Championships May 12-15.
