SMU’s Buechele Named CFPA National Performer Of The Week

CHARLESTON, S.C. (CFPA/SMU) – Quarterback Shane Buechele was named the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) National Performer of the Week after leading SMU to a 65-35 victory at North Texas Saturday.

Buechele went 24-for-33 for 344 yards and four touchdowns, while adding 29 yards on the ground and a rushing TD.

He has multiple passing touchdowns in 12 of the past 14 games and the 300-yard game was Buechele’s seventh at SMU and ninth overall. The four passing TDs puts his career total at 69, with 39 coming as a Mustang.

Buechele was one of 30 players named to the CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy Watch List to start the season. It is the second consecutive season on the list for the quarterback.

Buechele has also been named to the Maxwell, Manning, Davey O’Brien, Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award and Wuerffel Trophy Watch Lists. He was also selected as CBS Sports’ No. 1 player in the conference heading into the 2020 season, and the top quarterback in the state of Texas by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. Athlon Sports, Dave Campbell’s, College Football News and Phil Steele’s Magazine have named him a preseason first-team all-conference selection.
