SMU’s Lesniak Named C-USA Athlete Of The Week

IRVING, Texas (SMU/C-USA) – SMU junior Marta Lesniak has been named the Conference USA Tennis Athlete of the Week. Lesniak made quick work of her weekend competition as she helped No. 29 SMU top No. 60 Fresno State, 6-1.

The junior, currently ranked as the No. 5 singles player in the nation, swept No. 99 Marianne Jodoin 6-3, 6-1 at the top singles position to give the Mustangs their first singles point of the match and a 2-0 advantage. Earlier in doubles play, Lesniak teamed with Aleksandra Malyarchikova and scored an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles. The win moved SMU to 9-2 on the season. In dual action this season, Lesniak holds an 8-2 mark in singles play, winning six of her last seven matches, and a 7-3 record in doubles. She earns her first Athlete of the Week honor of her junior year and the sixth of her career.

SMU hosts Tulsa on Friday at the Turpin Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
