IRVING, Texas (SMU) – Keena Mays was named Conference USA Player of the Week after averaging 24.0 points in three games, including a 33-point performance against Stephen F. Austin in her second game in over a year after transferring to SMU from Kansas, conference officials announced Sunday.

The junior from Arlington, Texas led the Mustangs in scoring in all three games, becoming the first Mustangs since Delisha Wills in December 2010 with at least 20 points in back-to-back games, posting 23 against Louisiana-Monroe in her first game at SMU. She also had 11 rebounds in the game for her second career double-double.

Mays led the Mustangs to a 2-1 record for the week, improving to 8-3 overall, and scored a game-high 16 points in a two-point loss to Wichita State, reaching double figures in all three games. She shot 48.2 percent from the field, making 27 of 56 attempts, including 10 of 23 from 3-point range. She is also second on the team, averaging 7.0 rebounds per game, and had 10 assists and seven steals.

Her 33 points against Stephen F. Austin is tied for ninth in a game at SMU and is the most since D-dra Rucker scored 33 at Fresno State on Jan. 28, 2001. She is just the third Mustangs to score 30 points in the last 10 years, and the 18th all-time at SMU.

Mays is the first Mustang to earn C-USA Player of the Week this season. Gabrielle Wilkins was named C-USA Freshman of the Week on Nov. 19. SMU competes in the Surf ‘N Slam Classic at San Diego State on Dec. 28 and 30, facing the Aztecs on Friday at 7 p.m. CT. The Mustangs will face either No. 15 Oklahoma State or Harvard in the second round on Sunday.
