SMU’s Nelson Invited To MLS Combine

NEW YORK (SMU) – SMU men’s soccer player T.J. Nelson has been invited to Major League Soccer’s Combine Jan. 11-15 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Nelson is one of 54 college seniors to receive an invitation to participate in the combine.

Nelson, a senior midfielder, was tabbed Second-Team All-Midwest Region by the NSCAA and was named to the All-Conference USA second team. He was part of the Mustang defense that led the league in goals allowed (6), goals-against average (0.75 per game), saves made (47, including three team saves) and shutouts (4). A two-time team captain, Nelson was selected to the Conference USA, Hurricane Classic and SMU Classic All-Tournament teams in 2012. Nelson appeared in 71 games for the Mustangs during his career, recording two goals and assisting on five others.

The MLS SuperDraft will be held Jan. 17 in Indianapolis.
