Stars Blank Sharks 5-0 for First Win of the Season

DALLAS, Oct. 5, 2026 — Captain Jamie Benn scored a goal and added an assist, Miro Heiskanen had the game-winner, and the Dallas Stars shut out the San Jose Sharks 5-0 on Monday night at American Airlines Center.

The win was Dallas’ first of the 2026-27 season. The Stars opened the schedule at home against St. Louis on Oct. 2, followed by a game at Nashville on Oct. 3 before Monday’s meeting with San Jose. Dallas had lost both, falling 4-0 to the Blues and 2-1 to the Predators, and had scored once in its first two games before Monday.

Heiskanen opened the scoring in the first period with an even-strength goal, the only goal of the opening 20 minutes. Dallas then broke the game open with three goals in the second period and added another in the third. Joel Kiviranta, re-signed by the Stars on a one-year deal this offseason, also scored. All five Dallas goals came at even strength.

Roope Hintz had two assists and won 8 of 11 faceoffs. Radek Faksa, Sam Steel and Oskar Back each had an assist. Benn led Dallas with four shots on goal and was named the game’s first star. Goaltender Jake Oettinger was the second star, and Heiskanen was the third.

Dallas outshot San Jose 26-13 and won 56.8% of faceoffs (25-19). The Sharks’ 13 shots were spread thin: no San Jose skater recorded more than three, with Tyler Toffoli leading the team in that category.

San Jose played a more physical game, outhitting Dallas 30-11, and blocked 21 shots to the Stars’ 13. Former Star Mason Marchment had a game-high six hits for the Sharks. San Jose also had more giveaways, 18 to Dallas’ 10.

Neither team scored on the power play. Dallas went 0-for-3 and put six shots on goal with the man advantage. San Jose was 0-for-2.

Up next: The Stars begin a two-game road trip Thursday in Buffalo. The Sharks visit the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 9.
