TCU Women Fall At Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 22 TCU women’s basketball saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday, falling 92-65 to No. 8 Texas at the Erwin Center.

TCU (16-6, 7-4) still has its best record through 11 league games since joining the Big 12, but couldn’t extend its winning streak or complete a season sweep of Texas (18-4, 9-2). The Frogs still sit in third place in the Big 12 standings.

TCU was outscored 27-4 in the first quarter on Saturday and could never recover from the early hole. Freshman Lauren Heard led the Frogs with a career-best 18 points while Amy Okonkwo added 13 points.

TCU was ice cold from the start and never recovered. The Frogs missed their first seven shots and were down 12-2 before Dakota Vann netted TCU’s first field goal on a nice spin move.

The Frogs would go on to make just 1-of-13 shots in the first quarter on their way to just four points, a season-low for any quarter. Texas closed the quarter on a 15-0 run after Vann’s bucket and led 27-4 after 10 minutes.

TCU would go on to play within three points of Texas in the second quarter, within four in the third and outscored the Longhorns by three in the fourth quarter.

18 – Freshman Lauren Heard scored a career-best 18 points for the Frogs, including 8-of-8 from the free throw line. It was Heard’s first career game in Austin where her brother Jerrod is a wide receiver on the Longhorns’ football team.

“This is a conference where if you aren’t ready to go, it can get out of reach really quick. I know a very similar thing happen to Texas at Baylor where they got it kind of handed to them, and it happened to us today. We’ve got choices now in how we respond to it, and I loved how we responded in the second half.  We played a lot more inspired and competitive basketball.” – Raegan Pebley
