ARLINGTON, Texas – The Veritex Bank Championship announced today that former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS NFL analyst, Tony Romo, has accepted a sponsor’s exemption to play in the 2021 event.
Romo will compete in the 156-player field in the shadows of AT&T Stadium where he made his mark on the Dallas Cowboys franchise. The Korn Ferry Tour’s newest event will be played at the newly renovated Texas Rangers Golf Club in Arlington from April 22-25, 2021.
“This is an exciting time for the Korn Ferry Tour to have an event in Arlington, and it only makes sense that one of the area’s favorite icons participates,” Anera Sports CEO Rob Addington said. “Tony has shown that he can compete, and it will be special for the fans within the community to see him in action with some of the game’s future stars. His participation will help drive interest and allow us to support our charities in a more significant way.”
Romo has played in four PGA Tour events since 2018, missing the cut at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship (2018-2019) as well as at the AT&T Byron Nelson and Safeway Open in 2019.
His most recent competitive start was in July at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship at Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield, Mo.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to play at the Veritex Bank Championship against the future stars of the PGA Tour,” Romo said. “I was really looking forward to competing in the event last year before it was canceled, and I have been working hard on my game over the last few months. I can’t wait to play in front of a home crowd at Texas Rangers Golf Club, and I hope to make a little noise during the championship.”
