U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship Canceled

HOUSTON – The Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship will not be held as scheduled April 4-12 at Houston’s River Oaks Country Club following the ATP Tour’s suspension of tournament play for the next six weeks.

The suspension, which will run through April 22, is due to escalating health and safety concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. With immediate effect, the suspension covers seven ATP Tour events as well as numerous Challenger tournaments.

“Our thoughts are with all those who are being directly impacted by this virus,” said Tournament Director Bronwyn Greer. “We are disappointed to not be able to carry on with the tournament, but the health and safety of our patrons, volunteers, staff and the players is our top priority. Considering the circumstances of this global emergency, we support the ATP’s decision.”

Special Events that were scheduled to take place on court around the tournament, including Kids Day and Ladies Day, will not take place.

Those who purchased tickets for the 2020 tournament will soon be contacted directly with further information about their purchase. That information will also be posted online at mensclaycourt.comshortly.

The U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship has been held every year since 1910 with the exception of 1928. River Oaks Country Club has hosted a tennis tournament since 1931, with the exception of 1942-45.

In 2021, the tournament is scheduled to take place April 3-11.
