DENTON, TX- The first day of the Missouri Invite was filled with new school records and top performances of the season for many Mean Green swimmers and divers. The team broke a total of four school records, including the 200 IM record being broken twice by freshman standout Krista Rossum.

“I’m really pleased about how we came out tonight after traveling yesterday,” commented Dykstra. “The team was real enthusiastic tonight and motivated each other with high energy. Everyone lowered their top season performance times, along with a lot of lifetime performances. And to be going as fast as we are at mid-season, I’m really excited.”

Senior swimmer Rosa Gentile swam a team season-high 54.54 in the 100 yard Butterfly, which is the third fastest time in school history and only 0.40 off her school record set back in December 2010. She also set a new team season-high in the 50 yard Free, finishing in 23.69 seconds.

Junior Catia Weickgenant passed her own school record in the 500 Free (4:50.51 on 2/23/11), clocking out at 4:48.89. She also made her mark in the North Texas record books, swimming her way into 9 th place all-time in the 200 IM (2:05.70).

Freshman Krista Rossum broke the school record in the 200 IM twice, breaking

the previous school record during prelims (set by Rosa Gentile at 2:04.21 on 12/2/10) with a 2:04.01 and later breaking it again, setting the program’s top time of 2:01.85. This marks the third school record that Rossum has broken during her freshman season.

Freshman Mona Groteguth missed knocking off Nicole Leslie’s school record of 56.07 (2/20/09) by 0.23 seconds in the 400 Medley Relay.

While individuals shined, the relays boosted their way into North Texas’ top 10 record books. The Mean Green’s top 400 Medley Relay team (Groteguth, Rossum, Gentile, Weickgenant) set the fourth school record on the day for North Texas, breaking the school’s top time (3:47.33 with Gentile, Bado, Riedmann, Hale) in 3:45.90. The second relay team (Bernier, Muslow, Lewis, Ploetz) ended with the fourth fastest time in program history with 3:50.17,

The 200 Relay “A” team (Gentile, Seabre, Widacki, Wehrman) sailed to the end in 1:35.25, barely missing the school record of 1:33.26 (2/18/10) and into cruising into fourth fastest all-time. The “B” squad (Rossum, Jakopin, Kutac, Ploetz) finished in 1:36.67, landing them into eighth fastest all-time in program history.

On the boards, sophomore Catherine Johnson and freshman Rebecca Taylor both set new records. For the second meet in a row, Sun Belt Diver of the Week Johnson broke another one of Delia Covo’s school records- this time in the three-meter dive (280.15 on 10/20/10) by placing fourth with a 281.70. Rebecca Taylor also scored a new personal best on the three-meter dive (277.55).
