UNT Faces Nebraska In NCAA Tennis Tournament

DENTON, Texas – The No. 56 Mean Green tennis team was selected as a No. 3 seed in the Austin, Texas, Regional and will face No. 17 Nebraska in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 11, the NCAA announced Tuesday.

North Texas (18-6) won the right to compete in the NCAA Tournament when it defeated FIU in the Sun Belt Conference Championship final for its second crown in the last three seasons.

“I think this is a great opportunity for this team to go down to Austin and see what they’re made of,” said head coach Sujay Lama. “Hopefully we can get some of our great fans down there and really create a home-court advantage.”

The Cornhuskers (23-3) fell to Purdue in the Big 10 Tournament its last time out.

Nebraska and North Texas had four common opponents, with the Huskers going 4-0 against Arkansas, Wichita State, Kansas State and Tulsa.

Joining the Huskers and the Mean Green in the Austin Regional is the No. 11 national seed, Texas, and the Wichita State Shockers.

First serve for NCAA First Round action will be at 10 a.m. on May 11 at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Texas.
