UNT Runners Earn SBC Awards

DENTON, Texas – North Texas distance runners Sara Dietz and Matt Russ were named the Sun Belt Conference Track Athlete’s of the Week for their performance at the Texas A&M 10-Team Invitational on Saturday.

Dietz, who was named the women’s track athlete of the week, shattered her own school record in the 800 meter run by knocking nearly three seconds off of her previous record by finishing in 2:11.36.

The senior captured the lone win for the Mean Green on the day and sits at No. 8 in the nation in the 800-meter run on the NCAA descending order list.

Russ, who received the men’s track athlete of the week, finished in second place in the mile run for North Texas in 4:13.94. That time is good enough to lead the Sun Belt Conference by nearly six seconds.

Mean Green track & field will be back in action on Saturday when it travels north to the J.D. Martin Invitational at the Mosier Indoor Track facility on the campus on the University of Oklahoma.
