UNT Softball Beats Texas A&M Corpus Christi

San Marcos, Texas – The North Texas softball team capped the CenturyLink Classic with a 9-1 five-inning run-rule victory against Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.

The Mean Green improves to 11-10 overall and finishes this weekend’s tournament with a 4-1 record. Its only loss came at the hands of Purdue. North Texas is now 3-0 this season against the Islanders.

North Texas tied season highs with 11 hits. Paige Kisling set career highs with a 3-for-3 performance with three runs scored, and Jordan Terry hit her team-leading fourth home run of the season.

Brittany Simmons (3-3) won her third game of the season, allowing one run off three hits in five innings of work. She pitched a one-hitter through four innings before giving up two singles and a run in the fifth.

For the fourth game in a row, North Texas scored runs in the first inning. The Mean Green scored two in the first inning on Sunday against the Islanders. Kisling posted her second triple of the season and then scored off a wild pitch. Karly Williams knocked in the second run with a fielder’s choice.

Kisling led off the third inning with a single. She scored on a Terry home run, the second of the tournament for the third baseman. Jackie Miller knocked in a run with a long single to right field to put North Texas ahead, 5-0. The junior went 2-for-2 in the game with two RBI and one walk.

The Mean Green added four runs in the fourth inning, scoring two runs off wild pitches, walking in a run and an RBI single by Sarah McGann.

North Texas hit .346 as a team in the tournament. Jordan Terry knocked in eight runs with two home runs, and Dani Hoff hit .467 in the tournament with seven hits.

North Texas opens conference play next weekend when it hosts FIU in a three-game series.
