UNT Softball Tops Troy

DENTON, Texas (3/17/13) – Taylor Schoblocher hit two home runs, and Ashley Kirk struck out 10 batters to lead the North Texas softball team to a 10-2 run-rule victory against Troy on Sunday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium.

The Mean Green (14-12, 3-2) wins the conference series against Troy with the Sunday win. The two teams split the Saturday doubleheader. The Trojans fall to 12-18 and 2-3 in the Sun Belt.

After posting a pinch-hit three-run homer in Saturday’s win, Taylor Schoblocher continued her hitting streak with two home runs in the Sunday victory. She regained the North Texas lead with a two-run homer in the third inning and then ended the game in the fifth inning on a run-rule with a solo home run.

Kirk (6-4) earned the win with a complete-game performance. She pitched five innings, gave up two runs off four hits and struck out 10 batters. Her only mistake was a two-run homer that she gave up to Hannah Renn in the third inning. The two runs gave Troy a brief 2-1 lead.

North Texas jumped out early, scoring a run in the first inning. Brooke Foster led off the game with a

walk and later scored on a groundout to second base by Dani Hoff.

North Texas regained the lead with Schoblocher’s two-run homer in the bottom of the third. Foster added to the lead with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly.

The Mean Green scored five runs in the fourth inning to extend its lead to 9-2. Bryana Wade knocked in a run with the bases loaded after reaching on an error. Karly Williams scored another run with a sacrifice fly, and Foster loaded the bases again after being intentionally walked for the second time in the game.

Paige Kisling slapped a ball to left field that scooted past the outfielder, leading to a three-run triple. The freshman leads the team with three triples. The three triples are tied for second on the single-season list. She needs one more to tie the record.

Kirk struck out the side in the top of the fifth, and Schoblocher ended the game with a two-out homer to right field in the bottom of the inning. The freshman catcher is now tied for the team lead with Jordan Terry with four home runs.

In the three-game series, Foster led the offense with a .625 batting average, 1.250 slugging percentage and a .692 on-base percentage. Schoblocher went 3-for-5 with three home runs.

North Texas returns to action on Wednesday, March 20 when it faces Oklahoma State on the road.
