DENTON, Texas- The Mean Green made history on Senior Night topping cross-town rival TCU 132-111 at home for the first time in program history.

North Texas (6-3) has beaten the Horned Frogs (8-5) in three of the past four meetings. The Mean Green’s last victory over TCU came on January 15, 2010. The schools were forced to cancel last season’s meet due to a snowstorm in the DFW metroplex.

Junior Catia Weickgenant could not be stopped in the pool. As the anchoring leg of the opening 400 Medley Relay “A” team, Weickgenant led the lanes with a winning time of 3:51.99. She prevailed over the competition, topping the pack with first place finishes in the 200 Yard Free (1:53.08) and 500 Free (5:05.29).

Sophomore Catherine Johnson, a multiple SBC Diver of the Week award winner, owned the boards against the Horned Frogs. Johnson won the three-meter (294.45) and one-meter dive (280.58). Rebecca Taylor followed closely behind, finishing second in both the three-meter (292.43) and one-meter dive (279.23).

“This was a great win for us tonight. Any time you beat your cross-town rival, it’s a special win,” commented head coach Joe Dykstra. “I know it has a lot of extra meaning for the seniors too. It was the last time to compete in this pool and against TCU. They wanted this win really

bad, stepped up to the plate, and did a really good job.”

“Hiliary Riedmann had her best dual meet ever here, winning the 1000 Free and second in the 500 Free- it’s not easy to do both those races in the same meet. She really stepped up and had a great senior day. Carleigh Kutac, Seabre Pope, Stephanie Bernier, Rosa Gentile, Madison Fleming, Danae Welch, Brandi Townsend… The seniors did a really good job today. Stephanie performed very well in the 200 back today. They did a fantastic job and I’m really proud of them to get this win.”

Since last year’s meet against the rivaled Horned Frogs was postponed due to a snowstorm, the Mean Green were more than ready to take down TCU.
