DENTON, Texas – North Texas tennis jumped 20 spots in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings to No. 40, the ITA announced on Tuesday.

The No. 40 ranking represents the highest the Mean Green has been ranked in program history, with the previous best being No. 60 last week.

“Being ranked this high just shows what these girls have accomplished so far this year,” said head coach Sujay Lama. “This type of schedule made this team mentally tough and has given them the will to win.”

North Texas (8-4) has won six of its last seven matches, with wins over No. 44 TCU, No. 50 Cal Poly and No. 53 Kansas State.

The win at TCU marked the first time the Mean Green has ever defeated the Horned Frogs and the highest ranked team that North Texas has defeated in program history.

The Mean Green is the highest ranked team in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex and is the fifth-rated team in the state of Texas.

North Texas tennis will be back in action on Friday when it travels to take on the No. 28 Tulsa Golden Hurricane at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
