WACO, Texas – A feisty Mean Green back row helped keep the North Texas volleyball team alive, but the Baylor offense proved too strong in a 3-0 loss on Tuesday night (25-15, 25-21, 25-16 ).

Senior Sarah Willey posted 16 digs through the first two sets alone and finished with 20 for a North Texas (11-12) team that wrapped up non-conference play against the Bears (15-6) at the Farrell Center. The match marks her sixth 20-dig outing of the year.

Baylor’s Alyssa Dibbern was the difference for a Bears squad that hit .263. The junior tallied a match-high 12 kills on .409 hitting, while Zoe Adom posted nine kills.

In an opening frame filled with momentum swings, a Melanie Boykins’ cross-court kill ended Baylor’s 6-0 run to start the match and ignited a 7-1 Mean Green streak that tied the score and forced a Bears timeout. Shelley Morton gave NT its first lead of the match moments later at 8-7.

That’s when Adom posted four kills in a 9-0 Bears run that buried the Mean Green in the first set.

Morton paced the Mean Green offense with 10 kills to keep her double-digit match streak alive at eight matches.

Hallie McDonald helped the Mean Green stay in the second set with a huge block on Baylor Setter Kate Harris that drew NT within two at 12-10, but the Bears were able to take advantage of North Texas’ .080 hitting in the frame.

Courtney Windham, a Baylor transfer, hit a monster shot that put the score at 24-21, but the Bears responded with a quick kill to dash the NT comeback bid.

North Texas returns to Sun Belt Conference play this weekend against ULM on Friday (7 p.m.) and Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday (1 p.m.).
