UNT’s Godbolt Scores 15 In Women’s Basketball Win

DENTON, Texas (1/28/12) – The North Texas women’s basketball team made a season-high 30 field goals and head coach Karen Aston picked up her 99th career win in the 68-54 victory against Arkansas State on Saturday afternoon at the Super Pit.

The Mean Green improves to 13-9 overall and 6-3 in the Sun Belt, while Arkansas State falls to 8-14 and 2-7 in the conference. North Texas has won six of its last eight home games. The Mean Green tied the season series with the Red Wolves, 1-1, after ASU defeated North Texas in overtime on January 7.

North Texas shot 48 percent from the field on 30-of-62 shooting. The 30 made field goals is the most since the Mean Green recorded 27 against Missouri State. The Mean Green defense held ASU to 31 percent on 18-of-58 shooting.

Three players led North Texas in double-figures. Jasmine Godbolt led the Mean Green with 15 points. She is just five points shy of becoming the 13th player at North Texas to score 1,000 points in her career. Tamara Torru poured in 11 points, her 14th game in double-figures this season.

Brittney Hudson added 12 points and 8 rebounds. The eight rebounds ties a career high and the 12 points is the most she has scored since recording 13 against Nicholls State on December 20.

Sara Stanley scored eight points, including six in the second half. She pulled down five rebounds.

Behind 50 percent shooting and 10 points by Godbolt, North Texas jumped out to a 35-24 halftime lead. The Mean Green was able to extend its lead to as many as 22 points in the second period.

North Texas hit just three 3-pointers but scored 46 points from the paint. ASU scored just 24.

North Texas hit the first two baskets of the game and never gave up that lead. Hudson started a 12-4 run at the end of the first half that gave North Texas a 35-24 advantage, its largest lead of the first stanza.

The Mean Green held the edge in rebounds, 40-28. North Texas has out-rebounded its opponents 18 times this season.

North Texas returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 2 when it faces Middle Tennessee at 5 p.m. in the Super Pit.
