UNT’s McCoy Hits Six Threes In Win

DENTON, Texas- Laura McCoy scored a career-high 18 points to lead the North Texas women’s basketball team to a 50-42 win against Western Kentucky on Wednesday night at the Super Pit.

The Mean green improves to 10-8 and 3-2 in the Sun Belt Conference. With the 10 wins North Texas has recorded the most wins in a season since 2008-09. The Mean Green defeated WKU (5-11, 3-2) for the first time since 2007-08.

McCoy scored a career-high 18 points on six 3-pointers. The six 3-pointers ties the record in a Sun Belt game and tied for second most in a single game at North Texas

Jasmine Godbolt joined McCoy in double-figures with 16 points. She scored in double-figures for the fifth straight game that she has played in and the 12th time in 14 games this season.

North Texas jumped out to a 21-5 lead, aided by McCoy’s four 3-pointers. WKU responded with a 12-2 run to enter the half behind by six, 23-17.

WKU opened the second half on a 10-3 run to take a 27-26 advantage following a jumper by Jasmine Johnson at 14:52. After North Texas went ahead by seven, WKU responded with another run to take its second one point lead 35-34 at 8:37.Godbolt scored five straight points to give North Texas a lead it would not relinquish for the rest of the game.

There was a total of 51 turnovers in the game. Each team scored 22 points off turnovers.

North Texas returns to action Sunday Jan. 15 at ULM at 2 p.m.
