The U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team easily defeated France 98-71 in the first Preliminary game of the Olympics on Sunday. The team never trailed in the game and led the game by as many as 29 points in the win.

France gave the U.S. a challenge for the first half as they were able to only trail by a point after the first quarter. The second quarter was a different story as the U.S. outscored France 30-15 to end the half with a 52-36 lead. In the second half, the team was able to overcome foul trouble and continue to lead the game in their dominate winning effort.

Power forward Kevin Durant was the big man for the U.S. scoring 22 points and nine rebounds for the team. He finished the game shooting 7-for-7 in the free throws and 3-for-5 in three point range. Kevin Love added some valuable points off the bench with 14 points off of 67 percent shooting.

Despite being criticized for their lack of “big men”, the U.S. team showed their athleticism outscoring France 22-9 in fast break points. They also shared the ball well as they had a 27-10 assist advantage against France led by eight assists from Lebron James.

The U.S. team looks to keep their Olympic gold medal dreams alive as they take on Tunisia. Tip off is on Tuesday.
