The Mavericks took a 4-0 lead in the first by batting around, including three hits and two Baylor errors. Miller started it off with a single to left and scored on Bottger’s double into the right-field corner.

Bottger, Shortall and Justin Copeland also scored in the inning. Two of the runs against BU starter Ryan Smith were unearned.

McCall’s solo shot to right extended UTA’s lead to 5-0 in the third. The Mavericks added another three runs in the fourth on RBI singles from Copeland and Bottger, and McCall’s sac fly.
