UTA Defeats Georgia State

ARLINGTON, Texas – Scott Cross sits alone as UT Arlington’s all-time winningest coach after the Mavericks stormed back to beat Georgia State 85-70 Wednesday night in the Sun Belt opener at College Park Center.

UTA (10-2, 1-0) extended its winning streak to a season-high five games and snapped a four-game skid against the Panthers. Georgia State (7-3, 0-1) had won the four previous meetings since the Mavs joined the Sun Belt.

Cross improved to 163-130 in his 10th season as head coach, surpassing Eddie McCarter (162-199) who coached from 1992-2006. Cross played for and was an assistant under McCarter.

Kevin Hervey and Jalen Jones carried the load offensively for the Mavs, who overcame a sluggish shooting start in the first half. Hervey led four players in double figures with 17 points and added eight rebounds. Jones added 15 points and five boards.

Kaelon Wilson scored 11 points and had five rebounds off the bench. Erick Neal had 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. Jorge Bilbao had eight boards and seven points.

The Mavericks were down by as many as seven points in the first half and led by as many as 20 late in the second.
