Allen Americans Win In California

Ontario, CA – The Americans completed their first ever west coast road trip and their two game set against the Ontario Reign Wednesday night at the Citizens Business Bank Arena Location. The Americans fell to the Reign on Tuesday night by a score of 4-1 and were looking to come away with two of the possible four points on the trip.

Ontario got out to a fast start when Matt White lit the lamp at 3:39 of the opening frame, assisted by Ralfs Freibergs. Allen answered back a minute later Ian Schultz’s 19th goal of the year while Spencer Asuchak contributed with the assist. Maxim Kitsyn put the Reign back on top 2-1 with his unassisted short-handed marker at 7:02 but the lead was short lived as Allen came storming back with three unanswered goals. First it was Kyle Follmer knotting the score at 8:32 with his 6th goal of the season; assists went to Chad Costello and Riley Gill. Then Josef Fojtik followed up with his 3rd goal since coming to Allen, assisted by Kyle Follmer before Greger Hanson capped the scoring for the period at 17:19, his 14th of the year, on the power play, with

Gary Steffes and Jamie Schaafsma earning the assists. Allen led the shot total by a count of 13-8 after the first period of play.

A much quieter second period saw only one goal when Ontario cut the Americans lead to 4-3 on a power play goal by Matt Register, assisted by Dennis Brown and Maxim Kitsyn at 9:37. Shots on goal were flipped in the middle frame with Ontario outshooting Allen 13-8 to even the shot count at 21-21 at the second intermission.

The Americans regained their two goal lead in the third period during a long 5-on-3 power play when Tyler Ludwig netted his 12th goal of the season with assists from Gary Steffes and Chad Costello at 5:56. Ontario was unable to get another puck past Riley Gill who turned aside 35 shots before the end of regulatio and the Americans held for the 5-3 win, improving to 33-8-2-2. Ontario outshot Allen in the final frame 17-6 for a three period total in favor of the Reign, 38-27.
