Rangers Agree To Terms With Seven Players On 2011 Contracts

The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has agreed to terms with the following seven players on contracts for the 2011 season:

  • Castillo, Fabio – RHP
  • Davis, Chris – INF
  • Font, Wilmer – RHP
  • Harrison, Matt – LHP
  • Hunter, Tommy – RHP
  • Moreland, Mitch – 1B
  • Teagarden, Taylor – C

With these agreements, there are now seven players under club control on the 40-man roster who have yet to sign: Elvis Andrus, Omar Beltre, Andres Blanco, Craig Gentry, Eric Hurley, Alexi Ogando, and Pedro Strop. The Rangers play their Cactus League opener on Sunday vs. Kansas City in Surprise.

BRAZOBAN TO JOIN BIG LEAGUE CAMP: Right-handed pitcher Yhency Brazoban, whose minor league contract with the Rangers was announced on Dec. 16, is scheduled to arrive in Surprise tomorrow and join major league camp on Thursday. Brazoban, 30, has pitched in parts of five major league seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers and owns a 10-12 record with a 4.70 ERA (60 ER/115.0 IP) and 21 saves in 116 relief outings. He appeared in the majors as recently as the 2008 season. The right-hander began the 2010 campaign in the Mexican League, pitching for both Minatitlan and Mexico City (Red Devils), going 4-3, 2.22 (18 ER/73.0 IP) in 52 relief appearances. He ranked 2nd among Mexican League relievers with 9.99 strikeouts per 9 innings and 4th with a .215 opponents average. Brazoban was signed by Mets on August 14, 2010 and finished last season with Buffalo (AAA). He pitched for both Licey in the Dominican Winter League and Guasave in the Mexican Winter League.

With the addition of Brazoban, the Rangers will have 55 players on the spring training roster: a full 40-man roster plus 15 non-roster invitees.
