SMU Downs Wyoming

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Markus Kennedy scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds as SMU continued its defensive dominance with a 62-54 win over Wyoming on Friday night.

Wyoming (7-4) was led by Larry Nance Jr.’s 16 points and 13 rebounds. Jerron Granberry added 12 points and Josh Adams 10 for the Cowboys.

The game featured five ties and 10 lead changes before the Mustangs (10-2) took the lead for good at 54-52 on a 3-pointer by Nick Russell with 3:55 remaining. After Adams missed a 14-footer and Nance failed to hit a free throw, Keith Frazier clinched it with a 3 with 1:42 left.

SMU, which entered the game holding opponents to 35.7 percent from the field, stayed true to form, limiting Wyoming to 34.8 percent (16 of 46).

The Mustangs won their fifth straight and outrebounded the Cowboys 39-29, marking the 11th time in 12 games that SMU has won the boards.

SMU is off until Jan. 1 when the Mustangs travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on Cincinnati in an American Athletic Conference matchup. Tipoff is slated for 5:00 p.m. CT and the game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
