NEW YORK (SMU) – SMU guard Josh LeRibeus has been selected by the Washington Redskins in the 2012 NFL Draft. Picked with the eighth pick of the third round (71st overall), LeRibeus becomes the highest SMU NFL pick since 1987, when Ron Morris and Jerry Ball were selected the second and third rounds of the Draft, respectively.

LeRibeus competed in 36 games, making 28 starts at left guard during his SMU career. During his sophomore and senior years, the Richardson, Texas, native started every game for an offense that eclipsed the 5,000-yard mark and scored 350-plus points in both seasons.

LeRibeus joins former teammate Aldrick Robinson with the ‘Skins, as Robinson was chosen by Washington in the 2011 Draft.

LeRibeus is the fourth Mustang to be drafted in last four years, joining current New Orleans Saint punter Thomas Morstead (2009), current Pittsburgh Steeler wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (2010) and Robinson (2011).
