SMU Women’ Tennis Receives ITA All-Academic Team Award

SKILLMAN, N.J. (ITA) — The SMU women’s tennis team and three of its student-athletes have been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for their academic excellence. The Mustangs were one of only 63 schools to receive the ITA All-Academic Team award. In addition, SMU had junior to be Elena Fayner and sophomores to be Hristina Dishkova and Yana Erkeeva earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or above. The Mustangs compiled a 3.38 team GPA for the 2012-13 academic year.

To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a student-athlete must meet have a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year. Three SMU student-athletes, Erkeeva (4.0), Fayner (4.0) and Dishkova (3.96) were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

In addition, Dishkova and Fayner also received a Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal for maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.75 during the past season.

On the court this past season, SMU had much success earning 14 wins with three Mustangs taking home all-conference honors. The Mustangs finished the season with a national ranking of 51st.
