TCU Women Defeat Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. – Zahna Medley and Veja Hamilton combined for 43 points as the TCU women’s basketball team posted a 71-62 victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Horned Frogs improved to 12-6 overall and 4-3 in Big 12 play with their regular-season sweep of the Cowgirls and the program’s first-ever victory in Stillwater.

Medley rattled off a game-high 24 points, going 8-of-12 from the field and 5-of-7 from 3-point range, while Hamilton tallied 19 points off a 9-of-18 effort from the field.

Senior forward Chelsea Prince also scored in double figures with 11 points to go with four steals and three blocks.

The TCU women’s basketball team used a 19-2 run late in the first half and into the second half to lead by as many as 17 points, and connected on big shots down the stretch to hold off the Cowgirls.

The Frogs got off to a slow start, trailing 17-9 while going just 4-of-13 from the field in the opening nine minutes before outscoring the Cowgirls by a 25-8 margin to end the half.

TCU reclaimed the lead with just under three minutes remaining in the opening half when sophomore forward Jada Butts grabbed a steal and dished to senior guard Natalie Ventress for the layup for a 24-23 advantage.

Medley and Prince would follow up with 3-pointers, and Medley

ended the half with a 2-on-1 breakaway, finding Hamilton for a layup with 9.0 seconds left as the Frogs went into the break on a 10-0 run for a 34-25 halftime lead.

TCU picked up where it left off to open the final 20 minutes, as Medley tallied seven straight points in just over a minute to push the Frogs to their biggest lead of 43-27 at the 17:01 mark.

Hamilton and Medley squashed multiple OSU runs down the stretch, as Hamilton converted a 3-point play at the 13:40 mark and Medley drained her fourth 3-pointer of the day to push TCU back to a 16-point lead with under 10 minutes to play.

Medley connected on her fifth trifecta and the 200th of her career from the corner with 6:31 remaining for a 15-point TCU lead, but the Cowgirls had one last rally, cutting the lead to eight with 3:55 remaining before Hamilton stopped the 8-0 run with a jumper.

Oklahoma State trimmed the deficit down to six twice with under three minutes to play when Prince answered with a left-handed layup from the baseline with 1:44 left in the contest.

The Frogs shot 51 percent (28-of-55) from the field, including a 54-percent clip in the second half, and connected on 7-of-14 shots from distance against the league’s top scoring defense.

TCU scored 20 points off of 18 OSU turnovers while grabbing 10 steals.

Brittney Martin led the Cowgirls with 15 points and nine rebounds.

The Frogs return home to Fort Worth to host back-to-back top-10 opponents, beginning with No. 3 Baylor at 7 p.m., on Tuesday at the University Recreation Center.
