DENTON, Texas – North Texas women’s basketball had its three game win streak snapped by the Tulane Green Wave in a 55-47 loss Friday night at the Super Pit.

The Mean Green (7-3) hung with Tulane for a half, trailing 26-24 heading into the break, but the Green Wave poured it on to open the second half with a 16-6 run in the first 9:03 to open up a 12 point lead.

North Texas would battle back to cut the lead to seven with 2:05 to play as senior Tamara Torru hit her second three of the game with Tulane (7-2) leading 49-42.

A turnover on the next possession by Tulane’s Olivia Grayson allowed Brittney Hudson to drain a jumper and take the lead down to five at 49-44 with just over a minute left to play.

The Green Wave was able to convert four of the five free throws it was given from there and gave up only a Desiree Nelson three-ball to pull-out the victory.

The loss marks the only time thus far this season that the Mean Green have been held under 50 points as North Texas shot just 26.9 percent from the field.

Torru led North Texas with 13 points and notched her third double-double of the season with 10 boards and a career high two blocks.

Junior Jasmine Godbolt, who registered seven boards on the night, moved into No. 8 on the North Texas all-time list in rebounds, passing Diane Williams.

Hudson registered a new career-high in steals with nine to go along with her 12 points on the night. Those nine steals, which tied a school record set in 1985 by Regina Woods, give the senior 30 on the season through 10 games, which is a career high for season steals as well.

The 15 steals the Mean Green collected as a team is a season high.

Jamie Kaplan was the leader in points for the Green Wave with 16 and Brett Benzio grabbed 11 rebounds for Tulane.

North Texas will hit the road Sunday for a showdown with Missouri State. Tip-off is set for 1:05 p.m.
