3rd Round CMRA Action At Eagles Canyon Results

{fshare id=2475}

The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) third round of Big Bike Endurance and Mini Sprint grids and second round of Mini Endurance, brought 10 hours of racing action to the 2.5-mile Eagles Canyon Raceway course this past Saturday, April 14, in Decatur, Texas. Temperatures in the 70’s, a light breeze, and partly cloudy skies made for favorable racing conditions during the Mini Sprints in the morning. However, as the 3-Hour Mini Endurance began, the wind picked up, and scattered showers drifted through the area. By the time the 5-Hour Big Bike Endurance began at 2 pm, the wind was sustained at 30 mph, with gusts from 40-45 mph, and occasional light rain lingered.

The 3-Hour Mini Endurance had a combined grid of 20 teams, with the classes of Formula 4, Formula 5, Formula 6, and Formula 7 Endurance, and ran on the 1.7-mile short course of the raceway. The Davis Rod and Cycle team, consisting of Jesse Davis, Ryan Andrews, and Brandon Altmeyer, riding a Honda CBR250R, took an early lead, setting the fastest lap of the race on Lap 5, running a 1:25.459. They would go on to take both the win in Formula 5 and the overall endurance win. The Underground Minis team; John Black, Dustin Sperry, Wyatt Sperry, and Conner Blevins on a Moriwaki 80, took second in both Formula 5 and the overall. The husband and wife team RyderHard Racing; Jane Ryder, Ken Ryder, Shawn Diamond, would celebrate their wedding anniversary by taking third in Formula 5 and overall with a Kawasaki EX250, the first podium for the team this season.

The 5-Hour Big Bike Endurance had a combined grid of 25 teams, with classes A Superbike, C Superbike, Fastline Motorcycle School Formula 2, and Modern Classic Endurance. A crash in an earlier practice had the Team SCRaceCenter.com KTM Racing team of Ty Howard, Ryan Andrews, Shea Fouchek scrambling to get the KTM RC8 fixed, and taking the start from hot pit. They quickly got up to speed, setting the fastest lap of the race-1:50.689, on lap 7 of the race. The Village Idiots team; John Orchard, Chris Headley, Blake Cochran, Brandon Cleland on a

Yamaha YZF-R6, were hot on the heels of the KTM RC8, and the two teams battled back and forth for the majority of the race. Despite the brutal weather conditions, lap times remained fast, and when the checkers dropped at 7 pm, Team SCRaceCenter.com KTM Racing would take the win in A Superbike and the overall win, Village Idiots would take the win in C Superbike and second overall. The 212Decals.com team of Dirk Anderson, William Guthrie, Brandt Dillon, Landon Talley, Allan Campbell would take second in A Superbike and third overall with a Suzuki GSX-R1000.

Ty Howard of Team SCRaceCenter.com KTM Racing had this to say, “Bryan West high sided in morning practice, and it took the entire mini endurance race to get the bike set back up and running. We were still fixing a couple of things and had to take the start from pit lane. The dry brake and the quick change on the rear tire was damaged in the crash, so our pit stops took a little longer, but the bike was perfect, the tires were perfect.

It was the wind that really wore the riders out; we really missed Bryan, it’s tough to do a five hour race in those conditions with only three riders. Shea did a great job making up for Bryan’s absence, and he ran really fast lap times despite the conditions. Overall, the team did a great job, the Bridgestones really lasted well; we did the whole race with only one front and one rear tire change. We averaged 8 seconds on the tire changes, front and rear, and I’m more than pleased with the results. I’d like to thank P1 Suspension, Dyno Jet, Bridgestone, VP, Pilot, Motul, 212Decals.com, KTM North America, and my pit crew: Brandon, Citrus, John, Craig Montgomery, and Jeremy Louder.”
