A sexual-assault allegation against Dallas Cowboys safety C.J. Spillman is being investigated by police in Grapevine, Texas.

According to multiple media reports Wednesday night, a police report was filed Sept. 20.

Grapevine Police Sgt. Robert Eberling told USA Today Sports, “Any investigation involving a sexual assault does take some time. At this point, there has not been any arrests or formal charges have been filed or anything like that. But we’re continuing to investigate.”

Several media outlets reported that the alleged incident took place at the Gaylord Hotel in Grapevine on Sept. 20, the night before the Cowboys played the Rams in St. Louis. Spillman played in that game, making one tackle, and the Cowboys have taken no action against him.

Attorney Gloria Allred apparently is representing the alleged victim in the case. According to the numerous media outlets, she sent a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell last week, saying that the player in question and a team official met with police Sept. 20.

“Thereafter, the accused was then allowed by his team to play the following day,” according to the letter. “We have asked the NFL whether or not this alleged rape was reported to them and if they approved this accused individual’s playing in the game notwithstanding the allegations that had been made against him.”

Allred said Wednesday that NFL executive vice president and general counsel

Jeffrey Pash asked if NFL investigators could interview the alleged victim “on a confidential and appropriate basis.”

Allred wrote to Pash, according to ESPN.com: “The fact that you chose to make public your requests to interview our client confidentially causes us concern about whether the interview itself would be kept confidential or tweeted out by you as you did with your letter to me. However, I am willing to meet with you to discuss your request and also to learn the answers to our important questions posed in my original letter to you (which was not shared with the press).
