Beltre Hits For Cycle In Rangers Win

Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre became the sixth Ranger in team history to hit for the cycle.  Beltre’s 4-for-4 night came in the Rangers 8-0 drubbing of the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.  It is the 2nd time in his career that Beltre has accomplished the feat.

The Rangers flirted with another entry into the record books as starting pitcher Matt Harrison took a no-hitter into the 8th inning.  Harrison’s bid fell short, as he finished the game allowing 2 hits in 8 innings.  The win is Harrison’s 15th of the season.  “He was a pitcher in complete control from the first pitch on. His first four or five pitches were strikes, and he commanded the strike zone all night. He got a lot of quick outs. He certainly had a good fastball, and moved it around in the zone. He was locked in,” said Rangers Manager Ron Washington.

Texas has won 7 of the last 9 games and holds a 6-game lead over the A’s in the AL West.  Outfielder David Murphy is enjoying the ride,  “What more could you ask for in one night.  A near no-hitter and a cycle.   An incredible pitching feat and an incredible offensive feat, all in one night by the same team.”

The Rangers will host the Twins again today at 3:05pm at Rangers Ballpark.  Ryan Dempster will be on the mound for Texas.
