Charley Pride to perform National Anthem at Texas Motor Speedway

Legendary country music artist Charley Pride will perform the national anthem prior to the start of the Samsung Mobile 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, April 18. Pride, a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, was the first African-American superstar in country music and has continued to serve as a pioneer in the industry so much so that he was honored by the Academy of Country Music with its Pioneer Award in 1994, one of numerous accolades Pride has received throughout his career.

Over the course of his more than 40 years in country music, Pride has accumulated a long list of achievements. He has 36 No. 1 hit singles including “Kiss An Angel Good Morning,” “Is Anybody Goin’ To San Antone?” and “I’m So Afraid of Losing You Again.” He has sold over 70 million albums and on RCA Records Pride is second in sales only to Elvis Presley.

Pride is just one of the legendary artists performing prior to the Samsung Mobile 500. One of rock-n-roll’s most recognized guitarists, Peter Frampton, will take to the frontstretch stage for an hour concert set to begin at 12:30 p.m. CT. His performance will highlight the three-hour pre-race show leading up to the Samsung Mobile 500 that begins at 2 p.m.
