Cole Wins 100 Yard Breaststroke At SMU Classic

DALLAS (SMU) — SMU senior swimmer Tom Cole won first place in the men’s 100-yard breaststroke during the 27th Annual SMU Classic on Friday at Perkins Natatorium. The butterfly specialist took the race with a time of 54.67 and bested the field by more than a second.

“This year’s Classic showcases some great teams and great athletes,” said head coach Eddie Sinnott. “We still have some work to do before, but I’m proud of how our guys raced tonight. We have a young team and it has been fun to watch them mature and develop up to this point in the season. Tom will be a great leader for us down the stretch.”

Mindaugas Sadauskas finished third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.59. The sophomore, along with Cole, Ryan Koops and David Larsson, teamed up to place fourth with a time of 3:18.11 in the 400-yard medley relay.

As a team, the Mustangs finished with 120 points on the first day of competition at the SMU Classic, featuring top-ranked teams from around the nation. Michigan (164 points) leads the field after the first nine events, while USC (148) is second and North Carolina (144) is third.

The SMU Classic continues tomorrow at Perkins Natatorium with the final day of events. For tickets, call 214-SMU-GAME or visit SMUMustangs.com.
