Cruz Hits Grand Slam For Rangers Win

Nelson Cruz was all about winning for the Texas Rangers in game 2 of the ALCS against the Detroit Tigers.  Cruz became the first player in major league history to hit a postseason game-winning grand slam.  This was after Cruz hit a game-tying home run in the 7th inning.  Cruz’ grand slam came in the 11th inning to give the Rangers a 7-3 victory and a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Texas took the lead early, with Josh Hamilton and Adrian Beltre each hitting RBI doubles to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead.

The lead did not last long, as starting pitcher Derek Holland gave up a 3-run blast by Ryan Rayburn.  Holland would last just 2 2/3 innings as he struggled with control.  Holland walked 4 batters in that short span.

Scott Feldman came in for Holland and pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up just 1 hit while striking out 4.  Feldman was followed by Alexi Ogandi, Michael Gonzalez, Neftali Feliz, and Mike Adams, who combined for 4 scoreless innings.

Michael Young, Adrian Beltre, and Mike Napoli all singled in the 11th to load the bases for Cruz.   With 2 strikes, Cruz hit the grand slam to left field for the game winner.   “It’s special, you know, when you get a chance to get a ‘W,’ that’s the most important thing,” said Cruz.

Texas takes the 2-0 series lead into Detroit Tuesday night.  Colby Lewis will be on the mound for the Rangers.
