Hamilton hurt in Rangers loss

The Texas Rangers lost for just the 2nd time this season at the hands of the Detroit Tigers.  In the process, the Rangers also lost their MVP, Josh hamilton, for 6-8 weeks.

Hamilton went down in the 1st inning attempting to score on a short pop-up that left home plate open.  Tigers catcher Victor Martinez got to the plate first and tagged Hamilton as he slid headfirst into home.  Hamilton left the game with a fractured arm that will sideline him for 6-8 weeks.  The Rangers are known for aggressive base-running.  On the day, three Rangers baserunners were thrown out because of that aggressive style.

Starting pitcher C.J. Wilson got a no-decision, giving up 4 runs in 6 2/3 innings.  Reliever Darren O’Day gave up a single and 2 walks to load the bases in the bottom of the 9th inning with the score tied at 4.  Miguel Cabrera hit a walk-off single to win the game for the Tigers, 5-4.

Game 3 of the series is Wednesday at 12:05pm in Detroit.
