Jon Rahm & Max Homa commit to WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play

AUSTIN, Texas – Tournament officials announced today that World No. 1 Jon Rahm and World No. 8 Max Homa will return to Austin Country Club to compete at the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play, March 22-26, 2023.

The announcement of their commitment comes on the heels of their combined success during the PGA TOUR’s West Coast Swing where the pair claimed three of the five events. Homa increased his all-time wins on TOUR to six after winning the Farmers Insurance Open while Rahm reached 10 career wins following wins at The American Express and most recently The Genesis Invitational where he won by two strokes over Homa who finished runner-up.

In five previous starts at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, Rahm recorded his best finish at the 2017 event in dramatic fashion, finishing one hole short to Dustin Johnson in a back-and-forth Championship Match. in 2021, he advanced to the Round of 16 before falling to UT’s own Scottie Scheffler. He returns in search of his first tournament win in his sixth career start at Austin Country Club.

“It’s a tournament I always look forward to,” said Rahm. “It’s a nice break in the thick of the season. When things are starting to get a little bit more intense, to have an event in which it’s match play, it’s fun, it’s a lot more exciting, at least for me. A little different vibe where you can just play one-on-one golf and just take care of the guy in front of you instead of a four-day grind.”

The 2021 U.S. Open champion has made six starts thus far in the 2022-2023 PGA TOUR Season, finishing in the top-10 in each instance. In addition to his three wins, he also finished T4 at THE CJ CUP in South Carolina, T7 at Farmers Insurance Open and 3rd at the WM Phoenix Open.

Homa will return for his third start at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, with his best finish being a T18 effort in 2021 after losing in a three-hole playoff in group play to eventual champion Billy Horschel. Since his 2022 appearance at the Dell Technologies Match Play, Homa has collected additional match play experience at his 2022 Presidents Cup debut where he went undefeated, holding a 4-0-0 record.

“It is always an exciting day when we get to announce the No. 1 player in the Official World Golf Ranking plans to compete at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play,” said Vice President and Executive Director Jordan Uppleger. “It’s even more exciting when we get to double down and simultaneously announce that fan-favorite and top-ranked Max Homa will also return to Austin Country Club. Having a premier venue play host to the world’s best players in a unique format is what this event is all about and we hope fans will be eager to cheer on these two players this March in search of another W on their season.”
